So it began... After having played guitar for mote then 30 years, in 2004 I got the idea to use my craftmansip on more then just furniture and start making guitars. This new hobby infected me immediately and got more and more fascinating. I sucked up all available information about this "art", read 5 books about making guitars within a few weeks, did research in the internet, on guitar forums and met people who were professional luthiers - some of them even for generations.
Many looked at me and disrespected me as a nurd because it was not imaginable to them how a professiona project manager shoud be able to make guitars. And even if he had the theoretical knowledge, he would never make it. He would brake the first 50 sides while trying to bend them and my guitars would never sound and so on and so forth.... I listened to all of that, knowing that I had just found my real meaning and my passion. And I was relaxed because many of the great luthiers have been self taught.
While I was bussy collecting all I needed for the first guitar, I met Christian. He is a judge but also addicted to guitars and so we started our first try together.
On those two pictures - the first of the entire history - you can see Christian (left) and myself in early 2005 drilling and routing our positiv templates:
We never used those templates because they were not precise enough and useless for the spanish way of building. But never mind, it was the beginning of the history that this website is telling and that it will contiue to tell hopefully for a long time. |
